Toy radio controlled cars

by Mike on May 6, 2009

Toy radio controlled cars have been kid favorites for decades. I still remember getting excited on a couple Christmases when I found a new car under the tree.

These days remote control cars are available for toddlers through adults. You can find cars representing favorite cartoons, NASCAR racers, boats, trucks, emergency vehicles and even candy. If you can dream it there is probably a toy radio controlled car for it.

A couple considerations when buying toy radio controlled cars

For kids around 5-7, most of the fun will involve crashing the toy cars into each other or any nearby walls. Look for something that is designed to take that kind of abuse. Something like the Kid Galaxy RC Bump N Chuck Bumper Cars would be perfect. You or one of your kid’s friends could race the other car as they went crashing around the driveway.

When kids are older and have better control of steering a toy radio controlled car, you can step them up to more traditional race car looking remote control cars like the Jeff Gordon Radio Control Car

Another tip: if the car you buy uses batteries, invest in rechargeable. They will pay for themselves very quickly.

Shell stations in Malaysia will be selling Ferrari model cars when customers fill up their car.

There will be 7 Ferrari models for sell including:

  • Ferrari FXX
  • 599 GTB Fiorano
  • 575 GTC
  • 250 GTO
  • 360 Challenge Stradale
  • 430 Challenge
  • F40

An eighth model, a yellow Ferrari Enzo, will be available for customers who purchase Shell Helix motor oil.

The company sold 2 million similar cars last year and has made 3 million this year. This year’s models include 2 sounds, one for when the car is pulled backward and another when it is released and start moving forward.

If you do not live in Malaysia, you should head over to eBay where they are already available and look for Shell Ferrari model cars.

Ford makes money licensing Mustang toys

by Mike on April 21, 2009

The Ford Mustang is more than just a classic muscle car that manages to thrive in the modern era. It is also a marketing monster.

Ford has been licensing the Mustang for years to create toy cars, clothing, and even video racing games.

Getting the Mustang products into kids’ hands helps establish the brand as something they want to have when they are finally old enough to drive. It helps increase car sales when they are older and helps bring in revenue for Ford while the kids are younger.

Most of the products are geared at boys but that is about to change. Ford is about to launch a new marketing plan specifically designed to girls between 8 and 16 years old.

The gear will predominately include apparel, accessories, home decor, stationery, jewellery and cosmetics. I can speak from the experience of watching my 6 year old daughter playing with Matchbox cars that Ford should also be sure to include some toy cars geared at girls, too.
